Robert Casadesus was at the height of an established career, which promised even more: tours in Japan, Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros (1955) , Commander in the Legion of Honour (1964) , premiere of his concerto for 3 pianos (1956)... With wife Gaby and son Jean, he formed what was called "the first family of the piano". Of a different nature from those of opus 8, these lullabies are not less melancholy. They encourage meditation more than reassurance, as if the composer sought to convecy musically the fundamental questions that preoccupied him. The first and third are dedicated to the his grandchildren: Antoine, Guy'son, and Carter, Thérèses'son. The first (tempo a Sardana), on the letters of Antoine/Antonio, is treated as a fugue. The second (andante) is sometimes on the notes of Nathalie, sometimes Natacha. The third, called 'berceuse lunaire" bears the following remark: "On the name of Carter Rawson, commemorating his birth and the American astronauts' departure for the moon (16 july 1969) 'This is a vision of the american astronauts' walk, a timeless landscape as if suspended in the heavenly vault.
